About Us

The Government of Maharashtra established the College of Agricultural Engineering as one of the constituent colleges of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Dist. Ahmednagar on 29/03/1968 at its Pune Campus. The college was subsequently shifted to the central campus of the University at Rahuri in 1972 which is 160 km from Pune. Subsequently, in the year 1996 it was named after the former Union Minister of State for Agriculture and architect of green revolution in India, Late Dr. Annasaheb Shinde, as Dr. Annasaheb Shinde College of Agricultural Engineering. The name of the college was extended as Dr. Annasaheb Shinde College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology in the year 2017. This college has B. Tech., M. Tech. and Ph. D. programme....

The under graduate programme in Agricultural Engineering was started in the year 1969 in Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri. There was trimester system of education with five-year Course Offeredme. During the year 1976-77, the education system was changed to semester system. After 1977, with shifting to new (10+2) education pattern, the B. Tech. (Agril. Engg.) Course Offeredme was changed to four-year Course Offeredme with semester system. Until 1990, syllabus of under graduate Course Offeredme used to be decided by the University through its Academic Council. In 1990, the syllabus of B. Tech. (Agril. Engg.) was discussed commonly by four Agricultural Universities and common syllabus was adopted for the Course Offeredme. In 1998, new ICAR syllabus was implemented, which was modified according to IV Deans’ Committee Report in 2007-08. Since 2017-18, syllabus suggested by V Deans’ Committee is being implemented.

The Masters Course Offereds in Agricultural Engineering was started in 1982. The Master Course Offeredmes leading to M. Tech. (Agril. Engg.) in four different disciplines viz. Agricultural Process Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering and Farm Machinery and Power Engineering were started with intake capacity of 2 in each discipline which was subsequently increased to the current capacity of 4 from the year 2005. Candidates possessing B. Tech. (Agril. Engg.) degree or its equivalent are eligible to take admission for M. Tech. The students admitted to M. Tech. (Agril. Engg.) Course Offeredme have to complete 55 credits including project and 6 non-credit compulsory courses during the period of 4 semesters. They have to attend Industrial / Institute training for a period of minimum 3 weeks at the end of II Semester.

The college started doctoral programmes leading to Ph. D. (Agril. Engg.) in 2011 in three disciplines of Agricultural Engineering viz. Agricultural Process Engineering, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering with intake capacity of 2 in each discipline. The Ph. D. programme in Farm Machinery and Power Engineering is started from the academic year 2018-19.

From the Desk of Associate Dean

Dr. Annasaheb Shinde College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, a premier institute for Agricultural Engineering, was established in 1969 under Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri to cater to the needs of agricultural engineering in the Maharashtra.

Agricultural Engineering concerns with the application of engineering and technological approaches to agriculture in order to increase the agricultural productivity optimally on sustainable basis; and efficiently utilize and conserve the natural resources for achieving the betterments of farming community and providing the quality food to the end users at affordable prices....

The college intends to enhance its teaching, research and extension functions by actively pursuing engineering and technological innovations in agriculture. Accordingly, the college has formulated the mandates to fulfil the above responsibilities of the agricultural engineers through teaching, research and extension.

Over the years, the institute has developed more than ...... successful technologies in frontier areas of agricultural engineering with great potential to increase productivity, reduce cultivation cost, reduce drudgery, value addition and nutritional security, conserve resources and provide alternate energy sources. As we look towards the future, Dr ASCAET endeavours to work in the frontier areas using state of the art technologies like Precision agriculture using GIS/GPS techniques for region specific crop planning, controlled precision application of inputs (seeds, fertilisers, chemicals, water, etc), conservation agriculture for carbon sequestration, multi-functional farm equipment to conserve energy and to reduce turnaround time, farm machinery management, applications of drones in agriculture, occupational health hazards and safety on the farms, application of sensors, micro-processor and computers in agriculture.

The students of this college have secured the jobs in top positions through on and off campus interviews in private tractor industries- John Deere, Mahindra, New Holland, Escorts, TAFE and Sonalika; irrigation companies- Jain Irrigation, Plastro Plassan, Nagarjuna-Palma, Netafim, Agriplast, DHI, EPC, Premier, Finolex, Supreme, Kissan, Kirloskar, Crompton, KSB, Texmo etc; NGOs- BAIF, WOTR, Indo German Watershed Development Programme, banks- SBI, HDFC, AXIS, Dena, Union Bank of India, Bank of Badoda, IDBI, Kotak Mahindra, ICICI; Bank of India; retail sectors- Reliance, Subhiksha, Spinach etc. Our students are also working in software companies-Infosys, IBM, TCS, Wipro, MBT etc.
